Remedial massage is a targeted treatment that identifies specific issues in the body and then uses expert massage techniques to treat them. It is perfect for those with chronic pain or injuries that require specialist treatment.

Our Qualified Remedial Massage Therapists treat the cause of the pain (not just the symptom!) by performing systematic assessments and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues of the body. This assists with rehabilitation, pain, and injury management.

Benefits of a remedial massage include:

  • Correcting issues with the muscles and bones - the main purpose of remedial massage is to correct the state and performance of the muscles and how they relate to the skeletal system. We examine the state of your body, your medical history, and the issues that you have experienced with tension and pain throughout your muscular system and create a treatment plan to help remediate these problems. We use pressure, stretching, and kneading to relieve the tension in your muscles, increase blood flow and restore your bones to their correct position, providing a host of benefits to your health and wellbeing.

  • Improving posture and joint mobility - tension in the back, neck and legs from sitting in the same position all day or performing repetitive tasks can cause the muscles to tense and lock your body into a state of poor posture. Remedial massage can help lengthen the muscles and bring balance back to the body, allowing you to practice better posture and rectify the issues associated with slouching or misalignment.

  • Reducing physical and psychological stress - remedial massage positively affects the neurohormones that regulate how you feel. A remedial massage can stimulate the production of endorphins which help elevate your mood and decrease your cortisol (stress) hormones.

  • Improving sleep quality - issues with sleep are often associated with pain and physical and emotional stress. By improving the body’s ability to heal itself, reducing musculoskeletal-related pain, and stimulating relaxation, remedial massage can help with a better night’s sleep and a more alert state when awake.

Who is a remedial massage for?

Remedial massage can be used to help people with:

  • neck, shoulder or back pain

  • headaches

  • sports or other injuries

  • arthritis

  • chronic pain

  • fatigue

  • anxiety or depression

Are there any circumstances when a remedial massage is not advisable?

There are some instances when massage may not be appropriate. We recommend speaking to your doctor before booking a session if you have any concerns.

Will I be sore after my massage?

It is quite common to be sore for a few days after your massage. You can feel tender to touch and this can last up to 4 days. We recommend drinking lots of water and having a warm shower after your massage. If you are in severe pain, it feels catchy or you experience numbness or pins and needles please contact us immediately for further advice.

What does a remedial massage involve?

We use a number of different techniques to locate and repair damaged areas of the body. We will deeply penetrate muscles associated with the problem and stretch different parts of the body.

What clothing do I wear for the massage?

Remedial massage can be performed with as much or as little clothing as you’re comfortable wearing – it’s always a personal decision. Usually, we recommend that you keep underwear on, and we use towels for coverage so only the parts that are being massaged are exposed.

How often should I get a massage?

The frequency in which one should get a remedial massage will depend on a few factors, such as if the pain or postural issue you are treating is a long-standing chronic condition or a new acute injury. Also, lifestyle factors will vary depending on the individual, and this will affect how regularly remedial massage would be recommended. Please speak to us for an individual assessment.
